President's Day in Port Townsend!

Ft. Casey

It was a windy day!
For President's Day, Jon's mom came up to visit us since it also happened to fall in her week long winter break, lucky duck.  So we met up at Ft. Casey near Ebey's Landing in Coupeville, since we heard it was something to check out.  It was a SUPER windy day, but we still had fun exploring the old for built in the late 1800s to protect against the Japanese.  Though never actually in battle, it was occupied with soldiers for a number of years.

We had a nice (windy) picnic there at the fort with our sandwiches and fruit and potato salad.  Gromit even got snacks from Grandma :) Then we headed over to Ebey's Landing for a quick hike to enjoy the view.

in the water!
After Ebey's Landing, we checked ferry times and decided to take a spur of the moment trip to Port Townsend.  I discovered I love that town! We went to the coolest coffee shop, Better Living Through Coffee, looked in some awesome shops , and had delicious pizza.

good travelin' pup

We tried to catch the 5:15 ferry home, forgot it was a holiday and other people had actually made ferry reservations, and were hopeful we'd get on the 6:45 since the next one wasn't till 8:30.  They started waving cars on and our hope started dropping as we realized we were nearly at the end of the last line to go on the ferry. They slowed down letting cars on to just a few at a time, and then they stopped letting them right as we were the next car to go on.  We were holding our breath, still hopeful.  The ferry worker walked over to the car, looked it up and down from hood to trunk, and then radioed back to the ferry asking how much room there was and what kind of car would fit and described our car.  Oh the anticipation! Finally he waved us through and a little cheer went up in the car !  We parked at the edge of the ferry, sideways :) We offered them our leftover pizza as a thanks and happily arrived home at 7:00, with plenty of time for a few games before bed!

Barely made it!
