Olympic Peninsula Trip!

For Jon's birthday, his parents got him a night at Lake Quinault Lodge on the Olypmic Peninsula, since we hadn't spent much time exploring that classic area of Western Washington yet.  Since it was a bit of a drive there, we decided to make a weekend of it and spend a night camping as well.  We invited Kenneth, Andy, Julie, and Nate, and of course we chose to go camping in Sequim , since it has the least amount of rain in Western Washington :)  It was touch and go weather wise at the beginning, but we managed to stay dry the whole weekend.  Warm...not so much :)

We arrived in the late afternoon/early evening after catching the Port Townsend Ferry after church and began prep for dinner, burgers & roasted veggies with smores and lottsa lottsa chocolate for dessert.  It was delicious.  We had a nice stroll around the quiet campground, with a beautiful moon over the bay.

We all had a rather long and frigid night, quickly realizing why the campground was so empty in the early days of April...  some of us had thermarests, some had air mattresses, some just had sleeping bags.  All were cold.  So we had a nice toasty breakfast of burritos and packed up :)

From there, we made the short drive down to the road to the Olympic Game Farm Park.  If you're ever in the Sequim area, I highly recommend it! We couldn't believe they allowed dogs, but were happy they did, cause it meant Gromit and River could come too!  You can imagine their reaction to a drive through animal park with zebras, llamas, emus, bison, deer, and more poking their heads in the window begging for bread :)  It was exciting times for all.

After a picnic lunch at the Game Farm Park, we parted ways with Julie and Nate who headed home, while Jon, Kenneth, Andy and I headed further southwest along the Peninsula, stopping at Ruby Beach along the way for some awesome hiking.

We made it to lovely Lake Quinault Lodge in time for some sunset pictures and dinner on the deck.  We were pretty tired from the previous night, though we did get in games of Takaido and Takenoko before heading to bed, except for Gromit who went to bed mid-game :)

The weekend ended with some more hiking around Lake Quinault area the next day, including a stop at the largest Spruce tree.

We then headed back our separate ways, with a quick stop for some Thai in Port Townsend before catching the ferry back to Whidbey.  It was a good weekend :)
