It was Spring Break, Jon had the week off, I took a few days off, so the parents made the 14 some hour trek up from Kansas to see us for a few days! Wednesday morning was rainy, so we postponed our St. Joe plans till the afternoon and spent the morning playing the first of many (11) games, Hare and Tortoise! Such a fun racing game, always a hit. The rain subsided (though the wind didn't!) and we headed into town for some awesome burgers and browsing the beachtown. We stopped by the fair trade stop, Dad got his obligatory tourist shirt, Mom got an owl decoration, Jon and I got a couple of books, ice cream was eaten, the beach was walked on, and then we headed home. More games that evening, including Lanterns, Concept, and CV. Some were enjoyed more than others, but a good time was had by all :)
We came home to find dinner and dessert had been made by my lovely husband, hooray! and spent the rest of the evening playing games, including Love Letter, Castles of Mad King Ludwig, Sheriff of Nottingham, and Dixit.
Friday we took time in the morning to show them around the Andrews University campus, where I work, the church, seminary building, library, etc. The dogs even had a great time chasing squirrels around campus, although it got a bit complicated when Jon and my parents wanted to go inside a building and I was left holding 3 dogs leashes :o
After lunch at Baguette (yum), we went to Apple Valley for my parents and their church friends to stock up on all their veggie meat supplies. So.many.big franks.
After Apple Valley, we managed to get in a few more games (Forbidden Desert and Coup) and then headed for a walk at the river in Niles. In the evening we squeezed in one last game, a cooperative Christian game called Commissioned (so close to winning!).
The next we went to church at One Place, had lunch, and then went to Warren Dunes for a short walk before splitting ways and each heading home. All in all it was a great visit and it was so nice of them to make the long trek! I feel excited about the fact that they really got into the games this time and even went home and purchased 6 of the 11 games we played! Yea for spreading the love of board games! It was a short but good visit and we'll see them again soon in June!
