Port Townsend Mother's Day Fun

Back to blogging! I know I've been terribly negligent when it comes to blogging, but shortly after my last post, my computer broke.  The top third of my screen is cracked and unusable, and in addition the hinge doesn't work, so it's now open all the time and used as a desktop, with 2/3 of a screen, until we can save up for a new one.  I thought about blogging using Jon's computer, but I really don't like macs and how un-user friendly they are, especially when it comes to pictures.  Hence why it's taken me so long to write anything.  Here we are, the middle of September, and I'm writing about the middle of May. Sad.

So anyway, back in May, we met my brother and parents in Port Townsend.  It's super easy for us to get there, a short 20 minute drive to Coupeville and then a short ferry ride and you're there!  So we all met up there to have a belated Mother's Day celebration.  We all went in on a joint gift, a Kindle Fire! Luckily, she really seems to like it and has been making good use of it.  After a delicious crepe lunch, we wandered through some of the PT shops, and then had an appointment at the docks.

Dad really got into the spirit of things
Although it was a Mother's Day celebration, we also had a surprise for dad.  A sailing trip!  We headed to the waterfront for our 3 hr sailing extravaganza.   It was just our family on the boat (ship?), which was fun, cause we could help the captain man the sails and steer and ask any questions we had.  We had a nice time and got a good view of PT, despite our lack of wind.  After our sailing, we had time for a few more shops and then it was dinner time.  The shopping really took it out of us :)  so we brought our pizza back to the hotel and ate there while mom played with her new toy and we tried to teach my parents a new game.  Unfortunately, everyone was kinda tired, so we called it an early night.

The next day we an awesome breakfast at this awesome hole in the wall.  I love finding those kinda places when we travel- the kind where all the locals go and only they know about.  Thanks to tripadvisor and urbanspoon, now we can enjoy that kinda good food too :)  It was super busy, but worth the wait.  Afterwards, we hit the rest of the shops we'd missed, and then hung out at one my favorite places in PT- Better Living Through Coffee.  If you're ever in the area- check it out.  We got our drinks and then spent the next little while playing a very sketchy game of Bananagrams.  It involved a great deal of cheating.  Some on purpose (Kenneth), and some by accident (me).  Ah well, added to the fun.  We parted ways soon after that, with Jon and I catching the ferry back and the other three headed to the good old suburban.  We were sure glad we'd walked on to the ferry; we checked the availability, out of curiosity, and if we had driven we would have had a tough time getting back, they were all full! Just goes to show how much fun you can have in PT, since everyone wants to be there!

Didn't crash us!
