Christmas Part Two: Breckenridge!

Christmas part two came December 8-13, naturally, haha.  Being part of a family with like 4 medical people, and a couple of students makes schedule planning interesting sometimes.  Anyway, this was the time that happened to work best for everyone.  So Thursday morning, bright and early, as soon as Katelyn was finished with her last final, Jon, Katelyn, Gromit, and I hopped in the car and headed 14 hours southwest to my parents house in Kansas.  We thought about splitting it up to two days, not knowing how the road conditions would be in the winter, but we made good time and the roads were good, so we pressed on and made it to Colby late Thursday night.  Friday morning we got up and the three of us, plus my parents, their two dogs and Gromit, piled in to the trusty old Suburban along with all our presents, and headed to Breckenridge, Colorado where Kenneth and Andy would fly in to meet us and we'd spend a few days there in a rented house to celebrate Christmas.

Despite the fact that we were driving through Michigan, Chicago, Nebraska, Kansas, and Colorado, it was actually the guys, leaving from Portland, who had the most weather trouble.  They had horrible ice conditions there and planes were just not taking off, sadly.  So we spent Friday without them unfortunately.  We got some snowshoes rented in preparation for the next few days and snuggled in to snowy Breckenridge.  Saturday, Mom and Dad drove over to Denver to get the guys and dropped us off at the bottom of a hill, and we snowshoed around and up back to the house, quite the workout!  It was quite lovely though, with snow falling around.  Luckily they got in that night in time for our sleigh ride.  On the way there, the roads were quite icy and a corner took us by surprise and we ended up sliding off the road a bit into a huge drift, just as we'd been talking about what a great car the suburban had been in previous snowy conditions, haha.  It wasn't bad, no one was hurt and the car was fine, we just couldn't get it back on the road, even with 4WD.  Luckily it happened just up the road from the sleigh ride, so we headed there and made it in time.  The sleigh ride was nice, the food was...ok :) They didn't quite know what to do with vegetarians, and fed us a lot of raw carrots.  Then there was some music, and then back.  Sunday was Christmas!  Yea!! Lots of fun presents received and given.  We spent the rest of the time there snowshoeing, innertubing, hot tubbing, board gaming, and strolling the town.  It was a lovely snowy Christmas part two with family and fun!
