Thanksgiving time was kinda busy. First, on Thursday I flew down to San Diego to attend the first SDA Missions Conference, which was exciting! Four of our returned SMs/SM club officers were also attending the conference. The first day was just meetings for coordinators, which is always fun for everyone. Then Friday through Sunday was the conference. It was set up in a One Project style, there were many different speakers talking on a variety of subjects related to "He Said Go", while we sat in small round tables around the room. In between the speakers, we'd discuss and process what they'd talked about, and had music as well. It was really good.
On Sunday after the conference ended, Katelyn and Jon flew down and picked me up and we headed to Mexico! It's a short drive from San Diego, and despite having lived in Texas and New Mexico, I'd never been. So even though we were just in Tijuana for a few hours, I have now been to Mexico and can cross it off my list :) It wasn't really lunch or dinner time while we were there, but I did want some good Mexican food, so we went on a churro search. Surprisingly, they were terribly hard to find. We asked around to many locals ("donde estas los churros??"), but no one knew. One guy even went off on his bike in search of them for us but came back empty handed. So, we got some dinner, included churros, after we got back across the border, and it was delicious. The next day we started driving towards Simi Valley where Jon and Katelyn's grandparents live. Along the way we stopped at spotted seals.
We made it to Simi Valley, where Terry and Uncle Mark met us as well. We were planning to do Thanksgiving there, but ended up doing Christmas as well since we were all together anyway. So we watched Christmas movies, ate Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, opened presents, played lots of games, and flew back on Thursday. It was a nice visit with family.
