For Spring Break, we flew back to Seattle to spend time with Terry and take care of some things. We arrived on Friday, and on Saturday afternoon we dropped Nike off at the kennel and headed to Bainbridge Island. Bainbridge, and specifically Clearwater Resort, were a favorite of Julie's, so it seemed an appropriate trip to take and an appropriate spot to leave her ashes.

We walked around and found her favorite soup place, had a great room at the resort and spent the evening playing lots of games, including Grizzled, Get Bit, Stuff and Nonsense, and Castles of Mad King Ludwig. Afterwards there was the obligatory trip to the hot tub, just like Julie would have done if she'd been there. I got to hear stories about hot tub trips in rain and freezing temperatures, sneaking in to hot tubs, and all sorts of adventures.

The next day we got up and caught the first ferry out back to Seattle. On the way there, the captain stopped the boat and we were able to say a few words before putting the urn in the water. During that time, as we were finishing up, the captain blasted the horn several times, out of respect for us I'm sure, though it seemed quite disruptive at the time. We tried to proceed as best we could, despite the interruption. Later we were able to laugh about it and how Julie would have laughed as well, so it seemed appropriate. We spent the rest of the time there playing games, sorting through shelves and closets and cabinets, rearranging furniture, buying more furniture, saw Beauty and the Beast, and went for walks. When people asked how my spring break was, I wasn't sure what to say. It was hard, and sad, reflective, fun, relaxing, busy, strange, and everything in between.
